The Dungeon is basically a place to see the exhibits that have been as nearly recreated as possible allowing visitors a look at the history of Scotland. Although it may be a little graphic for younger children, many of the parts of history that existed years ago are depicted here. The Dungeon explores the social history of Scotland with a look at the legend pertaining to vampires. The way they seem to appear in the history of every country throughout the years is a part of this exhibit. This part of the Dungeon is a mixture of education, terrifying tales and fact that have been pulled together for visitors to draw their own conclusions. The exhibit draws thousands of visitors on a continuing basis. In addition, there are exhibits exploring the Clan Wars and the tale of the cannibal, Sawney Bean as well as the Anatomy Theatre where the eighteenth century medical field knew very little about the importance of sanitary conditions. All of this is a part of the history of Edinburgh and has been recreated so that visitors can see for themselves the amazing strides that have been made today.
