By the way, before I forget...look what I found out...
If you spend a little time to learn the language it will make it a lot less complicated. One on one lessons for a week to ten days, if you are a fast learner, should suffice to let you communicate without a lot of problems.
Visiting the countries of South America will let you experience another world where sometimes time stands still.
* Ecuador is separated into three regions. The costa (coast), the sierra (central region), and the oriente (rainforest). Quito, the capital of Ecuador is close to all three regions and if you are up for adventure this is the place.
The rainforest is one area that you will not want to pass up. Some of these are home to over 320 species of birds. The beautiful species of orchids and bromeliads are a sight to see.
* Mindo, a small village, about 2 ½ hours west of Quito has jungle huts modified to serve as a hotel. For visitors here these huts provide some amenities, but the beauty of the area is by far worth the trip. A waterfall with stairs leading to the top provides an unusual activity of sliding down on a rubber tube or swimming in the falls below. This area is a great South America travel destination.
* If you visit Uruguay, Paraguay, or the Falkland Islands you will experience some of the most delicious cuisine in the world. Meat is a staple here and various meats cooked over coals are a mainstay. Corn bread with a meat filling, chicken soup with cornmeal dumplings, deserts such as sponge cake with cream and jam and pastries are just a few of the tasty treats waiting for you.
* Caracas, Venezuela is a bustling city which most people pass through on their way to somewhere else on their South America travel itinerary. However this city has a beauty of it’s own. You can take the cable cars to the top of Mt. Avila and the view of Caracas and the mountains is absolutely breathtaking.
If it is clear enough you can see the Caribbean. At the base of Mt. Avila, the only natural waterfall in a city park can be seen here. Parque Los Chorros consists of many levels with over one hundred steps, tunnels, and bridges. Loads of vegetation and flowers are quite the sight for the visitor.
* Would you believe in southern Bolivia a hotel is being constructed entirely of salt blocks? It is not open for business yet but when it is completed it will be taking guests and will be one unusual hotel. This will definitely be worth seeing.
South America is connected to North America by the Isthmus of Panama. Bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by the Pacific Ocean, and the north by the Caribbean Sea, this continent has an area of about 6,882,000 miles.
