Places to Visit in Paraguay That Will Amaze You

There are several places to visit in Paraguay that will amaze you, and may even turn your vacation into an adventure of a lifetime!

If you look at South America - as long as you know what you are looking for - you will find Paraguay nestled in the interior lands. This country is basically undiscovered so the best places to visit in Paraguay are now waiting to become the tourism future. The economy is growing and visitors are beginning to discover all the natural wonder Paraguay has to offer.

Paraguay is a contradiction of the modern and times past. The bucolic and the cultured dwell side by side in this area of the world with little thought of the trivial pursuits that are common elsewhere. After years of dictatorship, the people of Paraguay are enjoying the resurgence of the economy and a democratic government.

Iguacu Falls

The combination of unspoiled natural beauty and native tribesmen that still live in this area make visiting Paraguay an adventure. When you visit this country you will not want to miss Iguacu Falls. A set of waterfalls that cannot be rivaled even by Niagara Falls, this is an awesome display of water cascading over cliffs. The falls can be accessed by going through one of three countries. Brazil, Paraguay or Argentina all have cities with the falls as a sort of tri-border.

The Hydroelectric Plant

In the eastern part of Paraguay is what has been said to be "one of the seven wonders of the modern world". This plant was constructed on the borders of Brazil and Paraguay and visits are guided by making reservations at least a week ahead. It will be worth it because the Power Plant of Itaipu tops the list of places to visit in Paraguay.

The lighting show uses 600 devices for a spectacular display of lights and color. Using 1200Kw, the light show is shown only on Fridays and Saturdays when the sun sets. The power plant of Itaipu was a joint venture between Brazil and Paraguay and is the biggest hydroelectric plant on earth.

The Capital of Paraguay

Are you ready to see the capital of Paraguay? Asuncion has the title of being one of South America's oldest cities. The area was founded in 1537 by Spanish settlers. Asuncion has many buildings that are very rich in culture, one of which is the Pantheon Nacional de los Heroes. A pink dome encases this building where fallen national heroes are put to rest.

Asuncion, being in the central location of a river port, was at one time the center of merchant activity. However, with the many political problems experienced, there was a point when the country closed it’s door to those wishing to visit. The recent resurgence of interest in the city for tourism is bringing the city back to the thriving area it once was.

If you are interested in seeing one of the most interesting places to visit in Paraguay, go to the western part of the country. Chaco is only home to about 5% of the entire population of Paraguay. The wide variety of species you will see here will probably never be seen anywhere else in the world other than maybe the Amazon.

Take the time to visit and you will be surprised at the array of animals that live in this area of Paraguay. Foxes, big cats, wild boars and deer abound in this area. The alligators and a tagua, which was though extinct until 1975 are all part of the wild, untamed are of Chaco.

Do not wait too long to decide to visit one of the most interesting places in Paraguay, because before long the tourists will rediscover the country. As a matter of fact, this is happening already. The past, present and future of Paraguay are all part of what makes this country a spectacular tourist destination.
