Situated on the mighty Mississippi River in the northeast corner of Louisiana, the small town of Lake Providence is an area rich in history and culture. Enjoy the farmhouse, cabin, church, and commissary on the grounds. You’ll also get to see a cotton field and gin. This unique museum will eventually include a new 3600 square foot facility that will feature both rotating and permanent exhibits, as well as an audio visual auditorium.

*Poverty Point State Historic Site - come and see this cool site! It is estimated that at least five million hours of labor were invested to construct this enormous prehistoric earthworks, one of the largest in North America. Considering the laborers carried the dirt to the site in baskets equal to about 50 pounds each, these earthworks are an incredible community work and a rare remnant of an extraordinary culture that thrived during the first and second millennia B.C.

There is also an observation tower and a picnic area in the park. Managed by the state of Louisiana, this state park is open to the public and one of the best places to visit in Lake Providence.

*The Byerley House - This beautiful home is reminiscent of Queen Anne Revival architecture and serves as a visitor and community center. Visitors will find free brochures on area attractions and have the opportunity to chat with friendly volunteers regarding places to visit in Lake Providence, Louisiana.

*Grant’s Canal Park and Lake Over-Look - located directly across from the Byerley House, this park boasts huge cypress trees and a picturesque gazebo. Right next to the park is a 600-foot long pier where visitors can take a leisurely walk, feed the fish, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake.

*The Veteran’s Memorial Plaza - Flags of the countries who had a part in Louisiana’s culture are flown daily at this memorial to honor those in the community of Lake Providence who served their country and to celebrate the centennial of the historic Louisiana Purchase. The bricks used to construct the top of this plaza bear the names of local veterans from World War I to the present day veterans of the war in Iraq.

*Panola Pepper Plant - located on the outskirts of town, this is one of the tastiest places to visit in Lake Providence! You’ll see how their world famous hot sauce and other items are created from delicious and beautiful peppers as you take the tour of their facilities.
