in the middle of the Belizean rainforest. Begin your trek in the jungle under one of the most lush,
primary rainforest canopies in Belize. Keep your eyes open for toucans and tapirs on your way to the

Cool off in one of the many swimming holes along the way. A safari ride and souvenir shopping are also
part of the experience.
Southern Belize
Southern Belize is a small area, but extremely diverse in its offerings of wildlife, jungle, Mayan
villages and sea life and one of the most interesting places to visit in Belize. Most of this area
is protected by Government forest reserves, National park status or simply from the lack of access
roads. Whether you explore Southern Belize by land or by water, it is best to have an experienced
guide accompany you.
Hiking and Camping in Southern Belize
Although there are no trail maps which outline existing hiking trails, this region of Belize is
criss crossed with trails that connect Mayan villages, waterfalls, family farms and caves. That is
another reason it is essential to have a guide. If you want to truly experience the tropical jungle,
this is the way to do it. Every shade of green will you see, not to mention monkeys and lizards.
Camping is allowed throughout the area of Toledo. Your guide can recommend a protected area for you
to pitch your tent for the night.

SCUBA Diving in Belize
The sites for SCUBA diving in Belize are unparalleled, which makes it one of divers’ favorite dive
destinations. Depending on whether you want to see coral reef or a shipwreck, there are several
sites from which to choose. Simply too many to mention, here are a few of the highlights.
The Three Outer Atolls - Lighthouse Reef, Turneffe Island and Glover’s Reef. The outer atolls is
the best diving spot and one of the most exciting places to visit in Belize. See coral, schools of
jacks and spadefish. You’ll see amazing tunnels and other swim throughs. During the months of April
and May, Glover’s Reef attracts whale sharks!
Hol Chan Marine Reserve - Swim with schools of nurse sharks and southern sting rays in Shark Ray
Alley or swim through large schools of fish and lush coral growth around Hol Chan, which is a large
cut in the reef.
The Barrier Reef
The Barrier Reef begins just north of Ambergris Cave and then meets the land at Rocky Point. While
you’re here, visit the new Bacalar Chico National Park and walk among coral skeletons. If you travel
just south of Rocky Point, you’ll see one of the largest sea turtle nesting beaches in Belize.
Nightlife in Belize
The nightlife is a bit different in Belize. Belize has very little development, so stargazing is a
favorite nighttime activity. Isolated beaches near Belize’s three mid-ocean atolls are some of the
best spots for seeing the stars.
If you want music and refreshments, visit Barefoot Iguana in San Pedro. They have a two-story hangar-
sized space with faux jungle foliage, mud wrestling and sporting events shown on a giant screen.
Hang out with the locals at the Sugar Reef Lounge, located in a small village called Placencia.
Wednesday nights are famous for karaoke.
With the number of places to visit in Belize, each one is unique and interesting and no matter
where you go, you’ll have the time of your life and want to return.
