Negril is a new tourist area as far as resorts go. There are great places to stay in Negril though.Previously a simple lighthouse that warned sailors of the treacherous rocks around the western coast, one house was available for tourists. Llandtrissant, which was believed to have been built by a Welshman in the first part of the century, is now surrounded by hotels where many tourists stay when they seek out places to visit in Negril.

The previous is so named due to the whales that lost their lives here. Long Bay is named because it has a barely perceptible curve. With seven miles of sugar white sand, this is an area where hotels are only two stories at the highest.

This is an area where caves are waiting to be explored and bluffs are for the brave who jump into the crystal waters of the sea. If something a little tamer is to your liking, visit Belvedere Estate, a working plantation. Growing sugar cane, this was one of the first only a short distance from Negril. It is open to the public so they may enjoy the beauty that exists on this one thousand acres containing waterfalls and exotic birds and plants.

Back to the most memorable landmark that stood before Negril was considered an area for tourists is the lighthouse. It was built in 1894 which is enough to make it quite the interesting place to visit; this lighthouse was originally run on kerosene.
