Exploring Nashville things to do will take you through the heart of the city and beyond. The many options open for visitors here will make this one of their premiere vacation destinations in the future as well. The area is rich in history as you might well guess. The Belle Meade area south of downtown is the perfect place to see the homes that are reminiscent of the Old South.

There are Georgian and Victorian style homes of which some have been converted to bed and breakfasts. By staying at one of these in the Belle Meade area, you will be a short distance from the restaurants and shops in this area. In addition, the Belle Meade Plantation in this area is a mansion that hails from the days of the Civil War.

The columns along the front of this plantation home have the bullet marks from the Civil War. The mansion resides on 30 acres just to the south of Nashville and is now a museum that holds much of the history of the previous residents. The Harding family lived in this mansion and had a thoroughbred breeding farm here.

East Nashville is another area that is rich in history as you will see when looking at the variety of Nashville things to do. This area called Five Points is where the Art and Invention Gallery is located and the Tomato Art Show is held here in August. Music Valley is another area where Nashville things to do are happening. This area, just seven miles from the hub of downtown Nashville is home of the Grand Ole Opry, the Grand Ole Opry Museum and the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. Shopping galore and restaurants also dot Music Valley.

While in this city, you will want to visit at least the Grand Ole Opry. This is where you get a chance to see some of the promising new stars perform and if you are lucky you may see one or more of the ‘already great’ stars. The chance to visit this icon will be one of the items on your ‘must do’ list if you are a country music fan.

While considering what other Nashville things to do you will be checking out, you should go to the Hermitage. This is the former home of President Andrew Jackson. The house is a Greek Revival style and gives visitors a look at the life of plantation owners during the 19th century. The mansion can be toured while visiting as well as seeing the various items on display at the museum. There is even a visit to the tomb where this former President and his wife’s remains are encased.
