Haunted Places to Stay
Looking for a place to stay that is a little less then ordinary, where you can have the experience of a lifetime? Here is a list of some of the best haunted places to stay across the United States. There is an absolutely beautiful hotel located just an hour outside of Denver in Colorado. This hotel is on the national historic registry with spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains called the Stanley Hotel. The Stanley Hotel offers over 16,000 square feet of some of the most amazing and unique experiences a person can have.
Be prepared to enjoy the sound of the children playing through the halls. Of course, this is even when there are no children in the halls. As a matter of fact, request room 217, for it is here that Stephen King was inspired to write most of the book “The Shining”.
If you really want to get up close and personal with the extra special guests at the Stanley Hotel you will want a room on the fourth floor. The fourth floor has the most reported ghostly activity. Room 418 is said to be the most active on the entire floor. The Stanley is located at 333 Wonderview, Estes Park, CO 80517.
The 1886 Crescent Hotel is another historic hotel, located in Arkansas. This is said to be the most haunted hotel in America, and if you plan a visit in January you can come and take part in the Ghost Seminar that is held annually.
It seems that there are few rooms in this hotel that you can stay in where you will come across an extra special guest. There is Room 218, in this room you will hear banging on the walls and your lights and television will be turned on and off by an Irishman that fell to his death during construction of the hotel.
Take a stroll outside the Recreation Room and chances are you will meet Dr. Norman Baker, who ran a hospital and health resort in the hotel in the 1930s. This hospital was on the controversial side. The third floor is where you find his nurse roaming the halls and if you are lucky enough to stay in Room 419, you will meet a former patient; she will introduce herself to you as a cancer patient and then vanish. The 1886 Crescent Hotel is located at 75 Prospect Ave., Eureka Springs, AR 72632.
Come and stay in an English castle right here in America. The Thornewood Castle is located in Lakewood, WA. This castle was constructed by Chester Thorne, shipped across the ocean brick by brick for the love of his life, Anna; a castle truly built out of love. Many guests have reported the special feelings that one experiences while staying at the Thornewood Castle.
The movie “Rose Red” was filmed here and this castle inspired the book “The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer…” Many guests have reported seeing Mr. Thorne throughout the years. You can quite possibly also see his lovely wife Anna sitting in the window of her room as she gazes out over the garden. The garden is said to be very special and there are apparently other secrets to explore there.
Also among the haunted places to stay that are worth mentioning is the Inn at Merridum located in Union, SC. This bed and breakfast boasts that there are 10 spirits, energy forces and ghosts that welcome guests. The Inn at Merridum has a long history of unusual happenings and sightings.
