Here you will be surrounded by incredible granite outcroppings and you are only moments from all of the major attractions that western South Dakota has to offer.

It is important to mention that while Keystone has family approved attractions, Custer is a family friendly city with a large selection of motels, campgrounds, restaurants, and a plethora of outdoor recreational sports for the family. This is really a great family vacation spot and only 21 miles from Mount Rushmore. Give the kids a little education and then an abundance of family quality time.

One can not go all the way to Mount Rushmore and then not make the 32 mile drive to Deadwood. While the name does not sound appealing to some, it is a town that one must visit to truly appreciate and enjoy. I would say that Deadwood is not one of the best places near Mount Rushmore but it is the best place to visit.

Deadwood is known as historical landmark thanks to its gold mining heritage. Currently it is everybody’s favorite place to be to have fun with the “Old West” casinos.

Almost as big as Vegas, there are eighty-five casinos and almost fifty restaurants to appease the taste buds of anyone. The family fun here is abundant as well. You name it and they have it for you to do. Fun sports such as crazy golf, race cars and a gigantic game room. Deadwood is anything but dead, it is filled with entertainment for the entire family.

One last place to mention as one of the best places near Mount Rushmore is the Devil’s Tower that is located in Wyoming. Devil’s Tower was established as a National Monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. This is also a one of the best places to visit near Mount Rushmore.
